    If you battery ever pukes out the positive post, the acid will wick down to the starter and corrosion will have its way; ruining both this cable and the starter!Once corrosion has set in, you have to replace the cable.This part has all the correct terminations and is properly sized. It fit, it works.

    My 2008 has always had problems with corrosion on the negative battery clamp. No matter how many times I cleaned it, soaked it in baking soda and water, and coated it with dielectric grease, the corrosion always returned. I suspected that the cable itself was also corroded underneath the insulation. As a result, the starter had a hard time cranking the engine. If the car sat for more than 2 weeks then it wouldn’t even crank over.I’d read that replacing the battery cables was a real pain, but I figured I would try it since the harness wasn’t very expensive. It’s only 4 connections not counting the battery. The problem lies with the cables that attach to the starter and the engine block. Both of these connections are right next to each other and have to be accessed from underneath the engine, but there is only about 2″ of clearance between the exhaust downpipe and the 2 terminal ends and only about 1″ between the downpipe and starter. I actually got my wedding ring lodged between the downpipe and starter before I took it off.In the future, if I ever have to do this again, I’ll remove the downpipe since it’s only 4 bolts. I’m always worried about exhaust leaks so I hate removing bolts from the exhaust manifold. Since I could easily see the nut on the starter terminal, and the bolt in the engine block, I decided to leave the downpipe in place and do the swap one-handed in that skinny 2″ gap. The starter terminal was easy with a 14mm socket, but the 15mm bolt into the engine block was at too much of an angle for my flexible u-joint adapter to work. I ended up using an adapter that connects a ratcheting combination wrench to a socket. I tied some old shoe laces to the old harness cables so when I pulled it out I could guide the new harness back into place.At this point I thought I was almost done. Wrong. I must have spent an hour trying to get the ground terminal bolted back onto the engine. The cable needed to be bent (while it tried to spring back), and the terminal end had to be twisted so the bolt would line up with the hole, all while threading in the bolt with just 2 finger tips. Next time I’m removing the downpipe.After much swearing and 2 cooling off breaks I eventually got the harness in place and the battery reinstalled. The starter cranked the engine much faster than I can remember and I am a happy camper.
