This tool worked perfectly to remove the tie rod ends and lower ball joints without messing up the grease boots. I only needed to replace the ball joint so not destroying the grease boots on the tie rods made it cost less and saved a lot of time because I could just reinstall them. The tool is very easy to use, just slip the forked end between the boot and metal attachment point then make sure the pivot finger is squarely on the threaded end and start tightening the bolt. Tighten until you have a good amount of resistance then tap the attachment point and or the finger with a hammer then tighten some more and tap again. When the stud comes loose it will be all at once the tool will fall free and you will hear a POP. Do not get insane tightening this tool, give it time and few taps. It will do the job it was made to do.

I needed this tool for work on my tiny BMW 3 series from the 90s. It worked for the first few projects, but today it couldn’t handle the ball joints on that tiny car anymore, and instead stripped the threads in the frame. It’s cheap, so you get what you pay for. It DOES work, just not for long.

Have a pickle fork & wasn’t sure if this Ball Joint Separator was necessary but, hey Amazon recommended it to go along with my linkage. The drag link was really stuck & this tool worked very well on it as well as the tie rod ends. Quite a loud pop when the drag link separation finally occurred. Probably should have warned my dog.Tips: 1) oil the threads before using it. 2) turn the castle nut upside down & put it back on the bolt. Provides more surface area for the tool but more importantly it will keep the drag link/tie rod ends in place when the separation occurs. 3) an old fashion rap with a hammer on the steering knuckle still doesn’t hurt.Great on the fly purchase.

I needed a well made and reliable tool to remove tie rods on my 91 Mercedes. I tried the OEM type pictured with this post and found it to be ill suited for the job. It didn’t fit the ball joint correctly and slipped several times as I tried to tighten it down. I saw a video which featured an ABN Universal Ball Joint Separator type tool and decided to give it a try. I selected this tool for its value, appearance and functionality. Turns out it was just what I needed to get the job done. The fit was spot on, the operation was smooth and the ball joint was separated within 30 seconds of me applying pressure to it. No hammers required! This is a heavy duty well made tool which will be part of my tool box for years to come. Highly recommended for anyone needing a well made ball joint separator.

I was surprised at the fact that I couldn’t get the tie rod end off without a tool on my Lancer. I tried prying, hammering, blow torch all as liberally as I was willing to go without risk of damaging things. I spent a couple years as a teenager working on cars as a job, and have done this repair before. Happily, this tool required a very small amount of force from my 10″ ratchet on this ball joint separator before the tie rod end popped right out. The fit of the tool was snug, so I’d suggest making sure the opening in the fork on this puller will fit your car before ordering.

Lo compre para quitar las rotulas de mi Suburban y no me sirvió, ya que es muy pequeño para camionetas, para autos seguramente puede funcionar

Probably works fine on smaller jobs. Another 1/4″ would have been enough for me. At their widest, the jaws barely fit over the bolt end, but the angle is such that it only slips away when you tighten. The jaws open to 2.25″ but I wouldn’t try this on anything bigger than 2″ for that reason.UPDATE. I decided to keep this, and cut off the end of the bolt instead. It was a horrible job – not enough access to use an angle grinder. However, once the bolt was short enough, BANG, success. The Harbor Freight version opens a bit wider, which is great, but I have broken three of those now. They aren’t tough enough.

JUNK. Threads stripped before I even removed first ball joint. Reason it’s cheap
