I have a number of welding magnets, but they are all a little over three quarters of an inch thick. They are too wide to use lengthwise on some square stock that has rounded corners. These magnets are less than three quarters of an inch and can be used on narrower bar stock with out sliding to the side. Of course using a narrower magnet you sacrifice some magnetic strength. These were stronger.
